6pm- Billy Wylder

Don’t miss Friday’s headliner Billy Wylder!

From the archaic streets of Jerusalem to the small towns of America and all along the way, music has been the thread and source of strength for Billy Wylder. The band features Avi Salloway from Bombino/Hey Mama/Avi & Celia joined by an inspired cast of top-notch musicians who have performed in over twenty-five countries. Over the last two and half years, Salloway has toured the globe, performing with Bombino, the Tuareg guitar virtuoso from Niger, Africa and is now bringing new and old songs to life with the Wylder family.

Billy Wylder, like their peers, the David Wax Museum and Vampire Weekend, bring sounds from around the globe to meld with their American roots, taking the listener on a journey from bayou to borough, desert to dreamland. Wylder’s a rebel on horseback, singing songs with the people he meets, songs of love and adventure, filled with the color of his journey.

In the heat of the Arab Spring, Avi traveled to Israel and Palestine to work on an ethnographic music and dialogue project with young Arab and Jewish artists. Through his inspiration from the experience, new songs began to take form and the idea of Billy Wylder was born. The band recorded Sand & Gold with the help of The Low Anthem and Dan Cardinal in Providence, RI and is now on the road in America, building the “Wylder family” of fans from town to town.
Seven Days

10am - James Mee

James Mee has opened for some of the biggest names in acoustic music: Arlo Guthrie, Shawn Colvin, Johnathan Edwards, Tom Rush. He’s performed at some of America’s best venues: The Bottom Line, The Bitter End, Club Passim, Mays Chapel, Cornell’s Bound-for-Glory. He has recorded critically acclaimed albums. He’s received seven songwriting grants from ASCAP and has been awarded grants through the NEA and the Crossroads Arts Council for his SING-ME DRAW-ME children’s music program which has been used by the State of Vermont’s, Rutland County, Headstart Program.

James has performed in concert in over thirty states and his songs have been heard on radio, television, and in the movies. James is a highly regarded songwriter and is best known in acoustic music circles as the author of “Big Times In A Small Town,” the title track on the Martha’s Vineyard Songwriter’s retreat recording issued through Rounder Records and presented by Christine Lavin.

He has been called a modern day Jim Croce. James has been likened to Harry Chapin and Lyle Lovett. A great storyteller with a wry New England wit, “likable and lyrical” says the Boston Globe. Micah Engber of Maine Public Radio calls Mee a “superior writer who can blend melodic phrases with intensely emotional lyrics in an incredible manner.” See him perform at 10am and noon on Saturday at the Main stage!

11am - SNAFU

SNAFU Maine residents Michael Menes and Leland Faulkner both have made their livelihoods as professional variety entertainers and are both well established solo artists. But in their new two-man show, SNAFU!, they conspire together to bring to life Murphy’s Law. What can-go-wrongwill-go-wrong as these “Masters of the Ridiculous” explore a collection of comedic props, physical gags, and imaginative illusions. The show is in the tradition of the classic American comedy teams like Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, and Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin. Suitable for all ages, the performance also includes hand shadows, juggling acts, and audience participation.

Although created locally, SNAFU! has already toured internationally as the opening act of the Shanghai International Comedy Festival and the Bengbu International Clown Festival in China where the team performed over 30 shows this September and October. Early in their careers, Menes and Faulkner met as young aspiring students at the renowned Celebration Barn Theater in South Paris where they recently performed the Maine premiere of SNAFU! Largely based on improvisational techniques, the two created SNAFU! over a nine month period at Menes’ Eureka Retreat rehearsal studio in neighboring Buckfield, Maine. With a film degree from the Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California, Leland Faulkner also produces humorous videos with Menes as the Eureka Theatre of Comedy.

2pm - Amy & The Engine

Amy & The Engine Having just released their debut EP TandeMania, which premiered on Consequence of Sound, the Boston-based pop rock band has only been around for a little over a year – and has already earned praise from some of Boston’s most beloved music curators and has even garnered national press. From nominations for the New England Music Award’s Best Songwriter, Best New Act, Pop Act of the Year, and The New England Deli’s Pop Act of the Year, to opening for national artists Rachel Platten and Vance Joy, the question is who drives the Engine?

The answer: “the new it girl.” Fronted by scholastic songstress Amy Allen from South Portland, Maine, Amy & The Engine has “pop gold” songwriting you can rock out to.

Introspective, handcrafted lyrics tackle the big pondering ideas of 20-somethings, and break them down into tangible, relatable emotions. Equal parts vulnerable and tongue and cheek, there’s honesty in Allen’s songwriting that is missing in today’s Top 40 – and it’s not a mistake.

Come see them on the Festival Main Stage on Saturday at 2pm and 4pm!
